Open Letter to Turkish President for Life Erdoğan,
Erdoğan, you have over the last few years called for Israel
to leave Gaza. Recently you called the Israeli Response to Hamas in Gaza a
'Massacre'. You told a pro-Palestinian rally Israel is ‘an occupier’. You say
Israel’s operations in Gaza ‘amounting to genocide’.
And yet you run a country that has illegally occupied half
of Cyprus, an independent nation and EU member, that Türkiye invaded on the
grounds that it was protecting Turkish citizens. Turkiye displaced 150,000
Greek and Greek Cypriots and 5000 more were taken to Turkiye to never be heard
from again. And while there are a number of UN resolutions calling for Turkiye
to leave the island with its 40,000 troops, you refuse to abide by them. Greek
Cypriots condemn the brutality of the Turkish invasion, including but not
limited to the high levels of rape, child rape and torture. Greek Cypriots emphasize
that in 1976 and 1983 Turkey was found guilty by the European Commission of
Human Rights of repeated violations of the European Convention of Human Rights.
Erdoğan, for you to accuse Israel of genocide shows a failure
on your part of knowing Turkish history. Did you not read about the Turkish genocide
of the Armenians when you were in school? Oh, I forgot, Türkiye does not
recognize what the rest of the world calls a genocide when it is Muslims
against Christians. Or what would you call what Türkiye has done to the Kurds? If
you support a nation for the Palestinians, then why have you refused to accept
statehood for the Kurds? Is it because of security reasons? Maybe that is why
the Israel does not want Gaza run by Hamas. And why has Turkiye refused to
support the two-state solution for Palestine and now talks about a two-state
solution for Cyprus?
Erdogan, you told Russian President Vladimir Putin that the
international community should “give Israel a strong and deterrent lesson” over
its conduct towards the Palestinians. But you said nothing about giving Russia "a
strong and deterrent lesson" over its invasion of the Ukraine.
Erdogan, it is time
you stop talking out of both sides of your mouth! It is also time for others, both
people and countries to stop letting you get away with it just because you are
a NATO country! When you obey UN resolution that predate ones on Israel, then
you have the right to all on Israel to obey them. Until you give a homeland to
the Kurds, stop talking about one for the Palestinians. And when you and your
country finally admit to the genocide of between 664,000 and 1.2 million Armenians,
plus forced conversions to Islam of another 200,000 Christians, and death
marches and expulsions of the population, then and only then can you have the
right to talk about genocide.
Jews know genocide. They have experienced
it all over the world. From the Roman expulsion of Jews from their homeland in Palestine,
to the Catholic expulsions and forced conversion and murders by Spain and its
colonies. The expulsion and murdering of Jews in France. The expulsion of Jews
from England. Their expulsion from Russia and forced to live in the Pale. Then Pogroms
where Russians, Polish and others would kill Jews every Easter. Then of course
there is the genocide perpetrated by the Nazis and their collaborators where
95% of the Jews in Europe were murdered. During the war, Turkey denaturalized
3,000 to 5,000 Jews living abroad; 2,200 and 2,500 Turkish Jews were deported
to extermination camps such as Auschwitz and Sobibor; and several hundred
interned in Nazi concentration camps. When Nazi Germany encouraged neutral
countries to repatriate their Jewish citizens, Turkish diplomats received
instructions to avoid repatriating Jews even if they could prove their Turkish
nationality. Turkey was also the only neutral country to implement anti-Jewish
laws during the war. Even in the US, we have seen it with the attempt by
General U.S. Grant, (yes, that Grant) trying to remove Jews from three states
only to be stopped by President Lincoln. Then there was the incident of the
ship The St. Louis. The US refusing to accept almost 1000 Jews feeling Nazi
Europe and forcing them back into the hands of their murderers. Here a list of many

So, President for Life Erdoğan, I do love your country. I would like to see it become a democracy again. But please shut up criticizing things your own country is doing or has done until you fix it. And people, stop appeasing him by ignoring when he attacks Israel while at the same time occupying Cypress and refusing to stop killing the Kurds and give them the homeland they want. How about a two-state solution for them President for Life Erdoğan?
